Junior Varsity Gets 5 Innings of First Season Game
The Hinsdale Central Junior Varsity was put to the test in their first season opener against Montini ending in a 1-1 tie after 5 innings.

Drew Bailey was the starting pitcher for the Red Devils throwing three strong innings.  Bailey faced 12 batters, striking out 6, allowing no runs and 2 hits.  He had excellent control, consistently getting the first pitch strike and keeping the Broncos off balance with his fast ball, slider and change up.  Kevin Quirke took the mound in the 4th and 5th innings and effectively mixed things up with his fast ball, curve ball, slider and change up.  Kevin faced 9 batters and allowed only 1 run and 1 hit.

The offensive output started in the 4th inning, with Andrew Nicholas singling and with his quick speed, reached third on a passed ball and wild pitch.  Nicholas scored when Bailey hit a sacrifice fly to right field.

Standout defensive plays included a sharply hit ball up the middle to second baseman Tim Connelly who backhanded the ball and released in time to Will Lamb to get the out at first base.  Mark Noth, catching Quirke, ended the game by accurately throwing out a runner trying to steal second base.
