Lyons Township jumped out to an early 8-1 lead and then held off a late Hinsdale Central rally to take the rubber game of the three game series, 8-6. The Lions batted around in the first inning off starting pitcher Richie Brennan scoring 5 runs. LT added 3 more runs in the second off Brennan and reliever Will Edwards. Edwards (4 innings pitched) and Garrett Cook (2 innings) shut out LT over the last 5 innings setting the stage for a wild comeback that fell just short. Second baseman Brock Piche’s two run double in the bottom of the sixth sparked a four run outburst bringing the Red Devils to within 2. Left fielder Jared White walked to lead off the bottom of the 7th. First baseman Tim Kanter followed with a deep drive to left that appeared headed over the left fielder’s head. Unfortunately for the Red Devils, LT’s leftfielder turned and made an excellent catch on the ball robbing Kanter of extra bases. One out later, Piche walked and designated hitter Nick Baldwin singled to load the bases. Third baseman Billy Auriemma popped out to first to end the rally and the game. Offensively, Central was led by Brock Piche’s two hits and 3 RBI. Nick Baldwin also chipped in with two hits and scored twice. Billy Auriemma, Richie Brennan, catcher Grant Slesser and rightfielder Troy Laing collected the other Central hits while shortstop Zach Leathers, Jared White and Tim Kanter each walked twice.
