FRESHMAN SWEEP DUKES WINNING IN EXTRA INNINGS

Tuesday’s game 3 against York went into an extra inning thriller for a 6-5 victory and a sweep of the Dukes. Matt Daspin pitched seven innings allowing one unearned run in the first and three unearned runs in the third. Matt then dominated in the other innings, striking out 8 batters. Will Lamb came in to pitch one inning allowing 1 run. Offensively the Devils chipped away, scoring 1 run in the second, started by a single from Colin Cimala, followed by a single from Anthony Fauntas, a walk to Mark Noth and a sacrifice fly by Tim Connelly. In the fourth after 2 outs, Andrew Nicholas singled, stole second, went to third on an error and scored on Alex Belluschi’s single. In the sixth, Nicholas walked, stole second and scored on a Hugh Harris single. Hugh moved to third on a throwing error, and scored on Belluschi’s ground ball that was bobbled by the second baseman, tying the score at 4.

Entering the 8th with the Devils down one run, Harris singled with one out and stole second. Belluschi singled and Harris trying to score was gunned down at the plate. Brett Morse walked, Cimala walked and Anthony Fauntas walked, scoring Belluschi for the tie. With 2 outs and bases loaded, the pressure was on Mark Noth. With two strikes on Mark, he hit a line drive to left field on the next pitch scoring Morse to win the game.
