Surge Carries Central to the Sweep
Solid contact hitting and the continued
quality pitching where the keys for the Devils as they swept Wheaton.
Matt Daspin, Brett Paul, Pat Kaiser and Drew Bailey combined to strike
out nine and keep Wheaton off balance throughout the game with an array
of fastball and off speed pitches. Solid defense by Sam Katz, Jason Maxwell,
Drew Halliday, and Kevin Quirke in the outfield ,and Brett Paul, Will
Lamb, Tim Connelly, Tom Lusk and Pat Kaiser in the infield helped support
the victory. The offense came to life in the 1st inning, singles by Andrew
Hubbarth, Tim Connelly, a walk by Pat Kaiser, followed by a big sacrifice
fly to center by Brett Paul and a clutch 2 RBI single by Sam Katz. The
2nd inning saw Will Lamb get the first of his 3 hits on the day and score
a run with singles by Charlie Thomas, who later stole home to score the
2nd run, and Tim Connelly. The Devils scored single runs in the 3rd, a
double by Will Lamb and sacrifice fly by Andrew Hubbarth, and the 4th
inning, singles by Nick Kurash, Brett Paul and sacrifice fly by Sam Katz
.The big blow in the 5th inning was Nick Kurash’s triple which scored
Will Lamb and Charlie Thomas after they had singled. The Devils finished
the scoring in the 6th inning with singles by Sam Katz, an rbi single
by Matt Daspin. Andy Nicholas who ran for Matt and eventually scored the
games last run as he stole home. A terrific effort by all the players.
