“MINI”
DEVILS GIVE “MAXI” EFFORT
With the color of the sky
resembling “nuclear winter”, and game time wind chills in
the low 40’s, the Red Devils “B”ombers embarked on their
first game of the 2003 campaign. The Devils struck immediately in the
1st inning with a walk to Dan Ball, a single by Alex Bellusci, and an
RBI single by Pat Keiser. In the bottom half of the 1st, Matt Daspin worked
out of a bases loaded jam, with the help of a nonchalant circus catch
by second baseman, Brett Paul, which saved at least 2 runs and possibly
3, with the runners in motion with 2 outs. Eamonn Cogan came on in the
3rd inning and pitched the 3rd and the 4th, giving up a run in the 4th.
Alex had 2 hits, including a booming triple to deep centerfield in the
4th. Dan Chakos and Scott Pauga each had singles. Dan Ball did a masterful
job behind the plate in such cold weather. Good pitching, timely hitting,
and opportunistic defense contributed to the first win of the season.
GO RED DEVILS!
